What could be prettier and more special than the virginal branch of a rose tree, filled with bracelets made of roses, each one as unique as a garden filled with roses? Surprisingly different than a traditional jardin de fleurs, this garden, made of copper curves twisting this way and that, blooms all-year round. 'The Rose Tree Toss,' a classic Renaissance-era indulgence (also an extravagance of The Belle Epoche), which ladies only engaged in and partook of in boudoirs, whilst men milled about the drawing room, discussing the day's events and occupying themselves in a charming gentlemen's only chess match, is an innocent recreational pastime, a Romantic Renaissance™ game depicted here in this modern-era visual vantage.
Gathering around the branch of a tree, women would take turns tossing their jewelry onto the fragile branches. Each lady would receive three turns before proceeding to the next. The winner would receive an exquisite piece of joaillerie, commonly, the first piece to land on the floor or the last piece to land on the tree. Laughter and tittering was even less rare. So went the etiquette of this most romantic epoch, undeniably enjoyed by the elitest circles, ever-more unusually, usually after an evening out. These past-midnight activities would later, several centuries later, be referred to as the early inceptions of the after-party. Secret, though only to a select few. Not as clandestine as one would have expected or thought. Questions, certainly, did arise.
